Yacht Scapha is a 35ft Swedish yacht built in 1977 by Helmsman Yachtdesign AB who were located in Vaxholm / Stockholm .
She is a beautiful yacht to behold with elegant yet swift lines, she is currently lying near Falmouth, UK and is now SOLD.
I would also consider a part exchange either way for a lifting keel yacht, not too old up to 32ft in length. A Delphia 29 or Jeanneau 29.2 ideally.
The Helmsman 35 is a high performance GRP cruising yacht, designed by Swedish yacht designer Haken Södergrön. Haken is a respected Scandinavian yacht designer who has designed many high performance cruising yachts over the years.
"Scapha" was first commissioned by her original German owner in 1977. She has had two owners since and is in a very good condition with many admiring glances and comments from other yachtsmen.

Winter 2009/2010 Hull epoxy preventative system After many years of antifoul buildup, the hull was gently soda blasted which revealed a previous epoxy coat. This was removed and the hull moisture content read and found to be very low. Three coats of International Gelshield were professionally applied along with both International hard and soft antifoulings. At the same time the topsides were professionally polished. She will now slip through the sea! |
2005 New Mast, boom and sails In 2005 the original heavy mast was replaced with a lighter alloy 14.3m fractional rig from "John Mast", along with a new boom, Furlex roller furling, standing and running rigging and a new Gib and Main sail made out of Dacron. Rigging has been serviced in 2010 and there were no issues as expected with it being so young. The Furlex line and the Gib running rigging has also been recently replaced 2009/2010. |

Engine Overhauled 2010 The engine, an MD11C, was given a top end overhaul of new pistons and rings, new cylinders. The valves were reground and seated. Injectors refurbished and all new gaskets and seals. The cooling chambers and waterways were cleaned and the engine now runs nice and cool with a very good water flow. This engine should last with annual servicing for many, many more years to come. |
2008 New Cockpit Tent One year after buying Scapha I felt that the yacht sprayhood was looking tired (I still have this sprayhood which is ideal for winter layups) and so a new sprayhood was commissioned......along with new stainless steel bimini frame, bimini and detachable cockpit tent. So glad we bought this as it means an extra "warm and dry" room when at anchor. |

Warm water, bliss! Scapha originally only had a cold fresh water system which was rather refreshing to wash in! In 2009, a hot water calorifier was fitted to the engine and the existing water pipes and taps removed and replaced along with a new high pressure water pump and a cockpit mixer shower. The calorifier is connected to the shore 240v system so that you have hot water when in a marina. |
Topside portlights One of the areas Scapha did need improving was the topside portlights of which there are 2 on each side. The originals were made of just perspex which over the years had crazed and quite frankly not up to the standard of the rest of the yacht. I commissioned new portlights made from aluminium and toughened 10mm glass from Houdini Marine Windows and I hope you'll agree they look great and really add to the yachts line. |

A sucker for gadgets The yacht already came with a Furuno GP-32 GPS on the navigation table, but after seeing a friends Garmin 3005C, I was hooked! It was also the perfect size to fit in the instrument console above the companionway. I connected a Nasa AIS to the Garmin which works great and shows all the larger vessels on the moving map. |
So why sell? I am looking at upgrading to a lifting keel yacht up to 33ft to make the most of the area I sail in. Jeanneau 29.2, 30i, 32i, Delphia 28, 29 and the Beneteau Oceanis 311 would be the sort of yacht I would like. I also quite like the Sportina 760 which though smaller, seems to have quite a lot going for her. |
